K is back. Just spoke with him.

November 18th, 2010 by Lindsay

Birthday card arrived from my mom & she said K was home yesterday.

another cup of tea

November 16th, 2010 by Lindsay

threaded a blister, thought about walking too far and uncomfortable shoes.

November 15th, 2010 by Lindsay

Tree is starting to turn. Not-desert, even though our garden requires very little to no extra water.

global birthday

November 14th, 2010 by Lindsay

Phoned my dad for his birthday (one day ahead in Australia) and wondered what day it was in Qatar and if I got K’s birthday right.

movie (Nowhere Boy) on couches.

Glad John Lennon didn’t go to war.

being a fish

November 12th, 2010 by Lindsay

spent hours hours hours at Kabuki Springs in SF. Enjoyed new floor in steam room, which seemed extra hot and lovely. Could live there, easily. This isn’t really about K but it’s all I did today!

Completely amused by the idea of this portable steam thing.

veteran’s day

November 11th, 2010 by Lindsay

grew up thinking veteran’s day was for old people, grandpas, dads, but now I’m older than most veterans. spent the day doing my favorite yoga class (can’t usually go b/c of teaching) and wishing the US would stop churning out veterans at this alarming rate.

white tea

November 10th, 2010 by Lindsay

started new box. A slow day. no school tomorrow, relishing the prospect of a day off.

teaching, busy dreams

November 9th, 2010 by Lindsay

A full day of teaching, 2 hours of talking about the telephone, and a dream in the morning about a long phone call with K, which hasn’t happened in years. We’ve been known to talk for hours, but not for a while. Stable lives & relationships mean shorter conversations I guess! Telephone on the brain. My favorite image from lecture:

fell back

November 8th, 2010 by Lindsay

basked in my extra hour. learned that most desert environments reject daylight savings, for obvious reasons…

tea, cartier-bresson

November 7th, 2010 by Lindsay

Enjoyed tea at Samovar after the great photo exhibit at SFMoma. I went for my usual, “Oceans of Wisdom,” rooibos based, mixed especially for the Dalai Lama.

I want to make teacups like this someday. The nubby things make it easier to hold the hot cup in your hand, but it’s more comfortable than holding a handle.

Wandering costco, thought about shipping all this junk over here, oil and war.

November 5th, 2010 by Lindsay

wondered who is celebrating Diwali where K is–I’m sure lots of people do. He told me his barber is Indian and gives a good head slapping massage.

staying warm

November 4th, 2010 by Lindsay

wondered if blankets are ever necessary where K is. Maybe. Lows in 70s now.

One of Afghanistan’s staple fruits. In our CSA box.

November 2nd, 2010 by Lindsay

Showed (and watched) documentation from Joe DeLappe’s dead-in-iraq project. Asked students if they knew anyone deployed right now, and saw fewer hands than when I asked last year. I hope that’s good news?

oil & war

November 1st, 2010 by Lindsay

filled up my car, thought about oil and war.

zombie dream

October 31st, 2010 by Lindsay

Maybe because it’s Halloween, maybe because I just finished a book about zombies (Handling the Undead), maybe just because, I had this unsettling but mostly nice dream that K (& me as well? I couldn’t tell) was a zombie. He was sitting on my couch, very cold and clammy and dead feeling, but we were having a nice conversation. What a relief to find an email from him this morning. This was just one part of a very elaborate, plotty dream that left me feeling exhausted when I woke up this morning.

took the brain slugs to a halloween party

October 29th, 2010 by Lindsay

Piles of candy reminded me I should get started on the next care package–K likes Hot Tamales. And cinnamon toothpaste. I use a cinnamon shampoo I keep meaning to send him too.

saw the sky

October 28th, 2010 by Lindsay

something I know K & I both see every day

this was a nice pre-sunset, colors were way more amazing than this in person.

more jar food

October 27th, 2010 by Lindsay

chili & cornbread….

A growing trend! Though this does not seem to be jarred for preservation, just for preservation presentation.

watched planes in santa cruz

October 26th, 2010 by Lindsay

it was a very clear night, even though this isn’t a clear photo! lots of planes and stars.

then this deer wandered into my headlights.

missing things from home 4

October 25th, 2010 by Lindsay

On my last day in Denver it was really cold! Missed both the weather and our heater while watching my mom’s little fake woodstove. The glowing logs are kind of mesmerizing.

missing things from home 3

October 24th, 2010 by Lindsay

Missed my electric kettle, but enjoyed how a regular kettle can keep water simmering. Would like one of those big hot pots someday.

armoured car

October 23rd, 2010 by Lindsay

While on our way to lunch, something (rock? meteorite? who knows) bounced off the passenger side window and shattered it. Thought about the vulnerability of vehicles, planes, bodies.

missing things from home 2

October 22nd, 2010 by Lindsay

Missed my electric toothbrush. But enjoyed the unfamiliarity of doing without.

missing things from home 1

October 21st, 2010 by Lindsay

While in Denver, I missed a few things from home, an experience I’m sure K & I share. Mostly these were luxurious, electronic gadgety things. I’m sure he misses much more basic stuff.

Missed our heated toilet seat! It was really cold in Denver, & the toilet seat was colder. Thought about buying one for my mom.

contemplated death

October 18th, 2010 by Lindsay

Had the sentiment behind this great t-shirt in my head all day, especially during my hospice gig.
