K is back. Just spoke with him.
Birthday card arrived from my mom & she said K was home yesterday.
another cup of tea
threaded a blister, thought about walking too far and uncomfortable shoes.
Tree is starting to turn. Not-desert, even though our garden requires very little to no extra water.
Phoned my dad for his birthday (one day ahead in Australia) and wondered what day it was in Qatar and if I got K’s birthday right.
movie (Nowhere Boy) on couches.
Glad John Lennon didn’t go to war.
grew up thinking veteran’s day was for old people, grandpas, dads, but now I’m older than most veterans. spent the day doing my favorite yoga class (can’t usually go b/c of teaching) and wishing the US would stop churning out veterans at this alarming rate.
started new box. A slow day. no school tomorrow, relishing the prospect of a day off.
A full day of teaching, 2 hours of talking about the telephone, and a dream in the morning about a long phone call with K, which hasn’t happened in years. We’ve been known to talk for hours, but not for a while. Stable lives & relationships mean shorter conversations I guess! Telephone on the brain. My favorite image from lecture:
basked in my extra hour. learned that most desert environments reject daylight savings, for obvious reasons…
Enjoyed tea at Samovar after the great photo exhibit at SFMoma. I went for my usual, “Oceans of Wisdom,” rooibos based, mixed especially for the Dalai Lama.
I want to make teacups like this someday. The nubby things make it easier to hold the hot cup in your hand, but it’s more comfortable than holding a handle.
Wandering costco, thought about shipping all this junk over here, oil and war.
wondered who is celebrating Diwali where K is–I’m sure lots of people do. He told me his barber is Indian and gives a good head slapping massage.
wondered if blankets are ever necessary where K is. Maybe. Lows in 70s now.
One of Afghanistan’s staple fruits. In our CSA box.
filled up my car, thought about oil and war.
